Sherig-in-a-Box

Following the success of our Sherig Collection, we are building a prototype for an offline educational server. The server will include many of the resources of the Collection with substantial enhancements, all available on a compact and inexpensive server:
  • Khan Academy
  • Wikipedia
  • Audio books
  • Educational games
  • Utilities
  • Dzongkha resources
  • More
The server is an ideal solution for schools without Internet that need scalable access to quality educational resources. Resources are then easily accessible from any wireless-enabled device (laptop, smartphone, tablet). Connecting the server to a LAN will enables access to desktops.

Main features:
  • Low cost (US$100 to $250)
  • Both wireless and wireline access
  • Easy installation and maintanance
  • Low power consumption
  • Headless
  • Plug-and-play
  • Doubles as a wireless router
We are currently evaluating two hardware options: The SMILE Plug Computer and the Raspberry Pi.
